What is an Allergy?
Steve Crooks

Defined Tag:
An allergy is an abnormal response of the body to some foreign body it comes into contact with. Although the substance can not cause harm to the
body, it does affect the immune system and then cause a reaction. This
reaction can trigger a variety of symptoms that may cause some
inconvenience to the person involved. The body reacts to invaders found
and seeks to protect itself by releasing chemicals to cope with what is
happening.

Just because somebody has an adverse response to
a substance he has used, does not mean that the person is allergic
to the substance and you don't necessarily have to deal with the same symptoms every time they
come into contact with him. For example, many drugs have potential side
effects. If a person suffers a side effect of medication being taken
this does not automatically mean that they are allergic to it. In turn,
an allergy is something that a person cannot get rid of or who may
suffer once or twice and never again.

Common symptoms of an
allergy include itchy and watery eyes, runny nose, and a rash. An
allergy is an exaggerated response to a substance that is not familiar
with. Allergies serve to cause more irritation to what you see, smell,
taste and touch. An allergy can be very serious if not kept under
control, and in the most extreme cases can cause fatalities. If you
experience any of the symptoms listed it is wise to go to your doctor or
medical centre as soon as possible for treatment.

An allergy
can take many forms. Some of the most common types of allergies include
nasal allergies and hay fever, skin allergies, drugs and medicine
allergies, allergies to food and insect allergies. Allergies and hay
fever nasal allergies that are usually of a seasonal nature and worsen
during the spring months due to pollen that is on the grass and trees
and often floats freely through the air, irritating nasal passages.
